When the Visitors Go Home part 1

In the summer, south Orange County roads, beaches and restaurants are awash with visitors from inland and northern California, from around the US and abroad.
But what happens when these visitors go home?

For one thing, not so many lifeguard stations are required on the beaches so some of them are removed to winter in the parking area.
Also some of our more shy residents take over the beach.

The seagulls start off congregating along the shoreline checking out conditions and catching up with what's new.

At low tide some of them decide that the rocks off shore are a good place to hang out.

Oh no, word has got around how good this spot is.

It's high tide and everyone has decided not to get their feet wet today.

Meanwhile on a rough day, the Pelicans prefer hanging out on the rocks.

  1. Thank you. There's a road on a jetty right by the ocean which provides a good vantage point.

  2. That looks just like it does in the summer with people, only it's birds! :) Great pictures, I especially love the one of the birds on the rocks.

  3. Very true. Both leave stuff on the beach! The Pelicans usually aren't on this section of rocks, they prefer the sections that are harder to access for pictures (unless you are in a boat or kayak), so I was happy to get it.

  4. Nice pictures Jacqueline! I love seeing the gulls and the pelicans grouped together like that. Looks like a fun time of year to observe the non-human beachcombers.

  5. It is amazing how different the beach is in the winter. One day the beach is empty, the next there are hordes of birds. It is wonderful to see all the different faces of the beach and ocean.
