New Painting

The painting continues. This one is on board which I've never used before. It was quite different from painting on paper and canvas.

It's called 'Towering Clouds' (8"x10" acrylic on board) and is based on a photograph hubby took on Tetiaroa, an atoll near the island of Tahiti. The atoll is most famous for being 'bought' by Marlon Brando. On our visit Tetiaroa in 2002 we met one of Mr. Brando's sons who lived there.

Picture to Painting

I've been working hard and having fun in my art studio over the past few weeks. As I pause to draw breath I thought I'd share a little snippet of how I turned one particular photograph into a painting.

This is a photograph I took at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad.

Here is the painting I created from it.
As you can see I changed the top part of the photograph replacing the dull brown and green colours (and eliminating the people) with a brilliant blue that I captured in other photographs orientated in another direction. I also changed the colour of the flowers in front.

A Marriage of Design

Last week Hubby and I went to a wedding in LA. The reception though was held in West Covina at Hurst Ranch.

It's a beautiful setting. As you go through the entrance it feel like stepping into another world.

There were lots of little vignettes like these throughout the site.

There were several stations dotted around the site for guests to put together their own custom built desserts and drinks.

And befitting a wedding, there were flowers everywhere.

And cake.

When not being used for wedding receptions and other events, Hurst Ranch has another life as a 'Living History' Museum,

Reflections

Just finished my latest drawing.

I've never tried reflections before so I'm delighted with the way they turned out.
