Paving the Way

With the ground work prepared, it was time for the pavers to be lain.

We chose these pavers as the different colours pick up colours just inside the house (in the case of the browns) and the colour of the house (in the case of the grey/violet).

Now we could start seeing the unifying element starting to emerge.

One of the things that pushed us into laying a new patio was that we wanted the area pictured at top where the water pipe is to be paved. It was previously unpaved. Although it wouldn't have been hard to do, it wouldn't have matched the other cement and would have looked 'bity'. Another reason was we wanted this curved look and that was going to be very tricky to back-engineer from the old patio.

This edge makes a really nice finish.

After the pavers are all in place, a layer of fine sand is swept over the patio to fill in the gaps between the pavers.

We were very happy with the way the patio turned out. Now onto the next part...
