Not quite new. I painted this a little while ago but forgot to post it.

Colours and Cars
Recently Hubby and I went to the annual Woodie car show at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point. Ordinarily we are not car people but Woodies are so iconic and they often display more than a touch of whimsy which appeals to us.
I like all the stickers some owners cover their windows with.
As an artist who uses lots of bright colours in her work, I revel in all the beautiful custom colours.
Those cars really shine.
Some of the owners have fun with their vehicles.
Looks like someone ignored the do not touch sign.
Owners take great care on the inside as well.
I always have to get a picture of an English Woodie. I remember seeing these cars on the road when I was growing up.
A sample of some of the luscious colours on display.
Here was a particular treat. A very old (1930's) Woodie Rolls Royce.
Hold on. Who is that on the front? She looks familiar.
The cars were not the only interesting things to see that morning.

New Painting
To date, yellow and violet have not been one of my favourite complementary colour schemes but working with different versions of violet have made me re-think this.

That's Not Bard
In honour of Shakespeare's birthday I thought I'd post a little literary humour.
Shaespeare walks into a pub and the landlord points to him and says, "Oy mate, you're bard".
Happy Birthday William Shakespeare and Happy St. George's Day to all my fellow English men and women out there.

New Painting
It's been a really busy time in my studio just lately. It could be due to my upcoming trip to England to visit family and friends.

Carnivale Time
I'm in a celebratory mood as I have finished my Venice Carnivale costume drawing.
I am very happy with how it turned out but am sad to be finished. It turned out to be easier than I thought it would be so now I'm on the hunt for the next drawing challenge.

Happy Easter
Well better late than never. Since Britain has tomorrow as a public holiday, Easter really isn't over until Monday night.
On the left is a Simnel cake which is a traditional English Easter cake dating back to the Middle Ages. The 11 marzipan balls on top represent the 11 good Apostles. It is a fruit cake with a layer of marzipan in the middle. Yum.

Step By Step
I've seen other painters do a step by step posting on one of their paintings so I thought I'd do the same. I didn't quite start at the beginning but you should still get the idea. The painting is an 8" x 8" acrylic on canvas of pink coneflowers.
The painting is based on a photograph I took at an arboretum last year.
I started by covering the canvas with a several values of a green and titanium white mix. After drawing in the particular coneflowers I wanted (an odd number is more pleasing to the eye than an even number) from the photograph, I painted in the cones.

Then I painted in the petals with a mixture of pinks and white.
Then I painted in the stalks.
Lastly, I painted a green and yellow mixture roughly in the background.
This is the painting from a side angle.
Close up detail.
